                        ^{The purpose of this paper is to present recent developments in biomedical engineering (BME) education and research in Brazil. The state-of-the-art in research in BME around the world is mentioned to highlight emerging technologies. A review of BME undergraduate, graduate and research programs in Brazil is presented. A roadmap of developing BME education in Brazil is outlined. Some critical implementation issues are mentioned.}
